Moving back to the workforce

Making it out of the kitchen and back into the professional workforce.

"It is time for ME."

Kelly was on the accelerated progression path in the public service until she heeded the calls of her family.  She  left her glittering professional career to care for her children. 15 fulfilling years later, Kelly felt that it's time to refocus on her professional career.

"What can I do?"

Kelly soon realised the challenges of making it back to the workforce. Work culture, norms, methods have greatly changed in the last decade. Kelly knew that she had to start all over again. She just didn't know where to start from.

Through her #CareerCoach, Kelly learnt to see how her 15 years at home was actually part of her career. She identified some transferable skills she had gained over the years. Through simple career activities with her #CareerCoach, Kelly realised common themes from her homemaker and professional experience. She learnt what engaged her and what she was good at doing.

"I hope to guide people through their problems"

With encouragement from her #CareerCoach, Kelly developed greater belief in herself. She became convinced that it was possible to return to the workforce. She set a career direction for herself to work as a counsellor in her church to journey with people who were hurting. Kelly planned her transition back, starting with volunteer experiences and then formal training.
